Checklist for your first week back:
Check your my DSD to review any documents which need your approval.
Make a clear after school plan. Where to go, who to meet, and what to do if plans change
Keep toys and distracting personal items at home
Remind your student that anything that has wheels needs to be walked on school grounds.
Adults: Remember your photo ID anytime you need to enter the building during regular school hours.
Doors will open at 8:30. Unless you are in a portable, please enter through the main doors for the first day of school.
Plan a little extra time for arrival and pickup so you can slow down, watch for pedestrians, and drive carefully around the school. Do not use the bus loop as a drop off or pick up.
Take a moment to discuss school expectations with your student. (see below)
Just Be.. Kind, Respectful, Safe, and Responsible: A strong start to the new year if built from a lot of small choices. Just Be Kind, Respectful, Safe, and Responsible is not just something students hear at school. Families can help make these expectations meaningful by using the same language at home.
Just Be Kind: Notice the classmate who may be nervous. Welcome someone new. Remember that everyone experiences the first week a little differently.
Just Be Respectful: Take care of school spaces, listen to staff directions, and help make classrooms and common areas places where everyone can learn.
Just Be Safe: Follow arrival and dismissal routines, stay off the newly repaired grass while it becomes established, stay away from any construction fencing that is still up, and remember all personal wheels must be walked while on school property (motorized or not).
Just Be Responsible: Come prepared, follow classroom routines, keep toys at home, and know your after-school plan.
Students return to the school on Thursday, August 20. Four times worth remembering are:
8:20 a.m. - Breakfast begins
8:50 a.m. - School begins
8:55 a.m. - Tardy bell
1:30 p.m. - Dismissal
And one especially important reminder: Friday, August 21 is also a 1:30 p.m. early-out day, just like every Friday all year long.
The first morning of school will be filled with excitement, anticipation, and perhaps a few nervous feelings. Our staff, Student Council, and Jr. Hope Squad will be ready to warmly welcome students, help them find their way, and ensure everyone feels comfortable and supported as we begin establishing routines that will soon become familiar.
